Quick facts about NHS Informatics Merseyside:

Challenge: Delivering clinical training for healthcare professionals

NHS Informatics Merseyside was successful in a bid to deliver a Microsoft 365 Optimization Program across their region. Recognizing the untapped potential of Microsoft 365 among their health and care professionals, they aimed to empower their staff with enhanced digital skills.

To achieve this, they leveraged two key components: a cloud-based Learning Management System (LMS) platform that is seamlessly integrated with Microsoft 365, and a user portal that complements the LMS and Microsoft 365. The solution needed to not only facilitate online learning but also accommodate various IT and clinical training while allowing users to self-register to gain access to the LMS. This flexible solution was built with Learn365 and EUM.

“Together with Learn365 and Extranet User Manager (EUM), we have developed an online Learning Management System (LMS) utilizing Microsoft 365 that can be easily accessed across the region and automatically configured according to an individual’s training requirements.”

Solution: Streamlined healthcare clinical training with Learn365 and EUM

Learn365 and Extranet User Manager (EUM) joined forces to create a cutting-edge Learning Management System (LMS) using SharePoint Online, tailored specifically to meet the unique needs of NHS Informatics Merseyside.

Chiefly, the development process focused on simplifying user onboarding, making it seamless and user-friendly. Through a streamlined self-registration process, users can effortlessly create guest accounts and be assigned to relevant groups.

EUM collaborated closely with NHS Informatics Merseyside to ensure the self-registration form was intuitive and user-friendly. The solution intelligently utilizes the email domain of registered users to automatically populate their organization details. Thus, in cases where multiple organizations are associated with a specific domain, EUM’s dynamic self-registration solution allows users to provide minimal information, with the system being updated accordingly.

Behind the scenes, a SharePoint List manages the mapping of email domains to organizations, enabling easy updates as requirements evolve. Once registered, users undergo a series of seamless backend operations. Specifically, this includes the creation of Guest Accounts in Azure AD, writing of profile information to User Attributes in Azure AD, adding relevant EUM Groups based on email domain, and enrolling users in the appropriate course catalog through the Learn365 API.

Furthermore, the entire user experience is designed to be quick and hassle-free. Additionally, the clear communication and Microsoft authentication eliminated the need for additional account management. Particularly, this integration of User Manager and Azure AD B2B collaboration has provided immense value to NHS Informatics Merseyside. Plus, this has allowed them to focus on delivering superior healthcare clinical training without the burden of credential management.

The customized learning management solution has empowered healthcare professionals to easily access valuable resources. Accordingly, this has further enhanced their digital skills while maximizing their investment in Microsoft 365. The user response has been phenomenal, with a constantly growing user base as new learning materials are added and promoted.
